The Sixth was in fact the luxurious Chrysler E-Class of the 80s in the interpretation of Dodge. Based entirely on the Chrysler E-class platform, the Dodge 600 was first introduced in 1983 and lasted until the 1988 model year. This car was the answer Dodge European manufacturers of premium sedans. And even the numbers instead of their own name were designed to inspire the buyer associations with models of Mercedes-Benz. Although, the new model had to compete not with Mercedes-Benz, but with the tribesmen Chevy Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, and Ford Fairmont. When the Dodge 600 hit the market, it came out as a 4-door sedan and had two trim levels: standard and ES.

The car was driven by a 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine from Chrysler, and as an option it could be equipped with a 2.6 liter four-cylinder engine from Mitsubishi. It is noteworthy that in the second year of production, sales of the Dodge 600 doubled as soon as the 2.2-liter turbocharged engine became available, which significantly added to the power of the car. In 1985, the Dodge 6000 suffered a lot of improvements and changes, including an increase in the base for the sedan, the emergence of a new SE trim level and the disappearance of the ES trim level.

The coupe and cabrioletโ€™s body remained intact this time, with the exception of cosmetic changes in the cabin and in the bodywork, in order to give freshness. In 1986, marketers for some reason decided to return the level of ES equipment for sedans and change the design of the grille and the rear of the coupe and convertible. The old 2.6 liter engine was replaced with a more powerful 2.5 liter engine from Chrysler.
