Ford Freestar - car review

In 2003, the first prototype of the Ford Freestar 2004 model year was released at a specially equipped Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario. This is the only plant that will assemble the new Freestar minivan. Ford Motor Company has invested $ 600 million in this enterprise to modernize equipment and introduce new technologies. This model is designed to replace Windstar.

Since now the names of all passenger models of Ford will start with the letter “F”, the updated Windstar minivan has become Freestar. In fact, this is the same Windstar, only slightly re-modeled and with much better handling. The body shell is essentially the same, but approximately 60% of the parts are updated.

The car boasts such innovations as: third-row seats folding to a completely flat state, access to which has become more comfortable; new lift door luggage compartment; 4-speed automatic transmission of the latest generation; New, wider disc brakes for all wheels with the new Panic Brake Assist system as standard on models equipped with Ford's AdvanceTrac system. Freestar became the first “van” to be equipped with the Swedish Safety Canopy System (safety curtain system). It reliably protects the heads of passengers of all 3 rows of seats during a side impact and overturning a car.

The front passengers are also covered from side impact with “cushions” built into the seat backs. The design of the cabin and dashboard is also characterized by a novelty and no longer resembles the famed Windstar interior. In addition, finishing materials have become more expensive and of higher quality. There are virtually all additional options that are able to please the most demanding customer. A variety of holders and stands ensure comfort for a family trip, and the climate control in the three zones of the car will provide a good atmosphere. The car is equipped with a cast-iron, 3.8 liter Essex V-6 engine.

The new camshaft profile allows for more smooth integration with an average rotation of 1,500 rpm and a power of 193 horsepower. Provided for the Freestar and the largest engine among minivans 4.2-liter V6. Also, the engineers worked on the reduced engine noise - fixtures were completely replaced and vibration was eliminated. Fuel consumption is 10, 5 liters on the highway and 15 liters in the city. The suspension has become tougher, which protects the car from turning over.
