In 1972, Granada replaced the Consul / Zephyr / Zodiac lineup. The car was represented by several types of bodies: two- and four-door sedan, four-door station wagon Granada Turnier and two-door Granada Coupe with a large number of chrome parts. Cheap car assembly until 1975 called the Consul. In comparison, the Granada was just gorgeous. In the Ghia, the spacious interior was combined with a no less sophisticated filling: V-shaped, six-cylinder engine with mechanical injection provided the power of 160hp; wooden panels, power windows and seats, air conditioning, sunroof and power steering, chrome false radiator grille.
In the basic version, the designers did without any frills: a plastic interior, usually an inline engine of 2 liters. Grade L offered power steering and door upholstery. Optionally - the hatch on two provisions. GL was distinguished by: velor interior (doors, armchairs, ceiling), wood trim on the dashboard, tachometer, voltmeter, oil pressure gauge, control lamp unit, four individual lights for each passenger, central locking, sunroof, all-metal bumper, wide moldings with shiny insert, tinted glass. Optional air conditioning (2.8), front power windows, extra optics.
On the first-generation Granada, a 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2.3 to 3.0 liters was installed. In 1975, the model has undergone modernization. The gamma of engines, a radiator grill was updated and the defects which were shown for three years of release are eliminated. Wagon was equipped with a sunroof, power windows and power steering.
To the model range L and GL, a so-called model S was added, which was a sports performance to replace the Ford Consul GT, and had a stiffer suspension, aluminum wheel rims, a 3.0 L engine and a sports steering wheel. The executive model Ford Granada Ghia, in 1975 was equipped with aluminum wheel rims, and a black front grille. The car was very popular in Europe, often used as a taxi or a police car.
Granada I was produced until 1977, when it was replaced by the second generation of this model. The main changes affected the appearance of the car. The new design was different rectangular shapes. But the filling has not changed. Simultaneously with the 2-door and 4-door sedan, the Granada II Turnier wagon was launched. It so happened that because of the fashion for small cars, the Granada II was not very popular.
Its production was even discontinued for a short time, but in 1982 the car began to be produced again and now it appeared at the buyers' court after a small modernization. The changes affected, above all, the design of the exterior and interior. There are new bumpers, plastic mirrors in the corners of the glass, grooved rear optics and some other details. Also since 1982, stopped the release of 2-door sedan. In 1983, a 5-speed gearbox and a new 2.5-liter diesel engine with a power of 69l. appeared. On the Granada II, carburetor and injection 4- and 6-cylinder gasoline engines of 1.6 to 2.8 hp were installed.
(from 74 to 160 hp), as well as diesel engines of 2.1 and 2.5 liters (63 and 69 hp). The power units were paired with a manual or automatic transmission. The model range consisted of the following configurations: 2.0 L, 2.3 L, 2.1 DL, 2.8 L, 2.8i GL, 2.8i GLS and 2.8i Ghia.
