The Ferrari 400 model is a two-door sports car with a 2 + 2 landing scheme, which was produced by the Italian car company Ferarri from 1976 to 1985. The debut of this sport car took place in October 1976 at the Paris Motor Show. The coupe design concept, which Pininfarina’s design studio had been working on, was borrowed from the Ferrari 365 GT4 2 + 2 model. The external changes that distinguished the Ferrari 400 from the GT4 model included the following: modified front air intakes, which provided a greater flow of cool air to the engine, new rear headlights (two round headlights on each side) and four exhaust pipes (two with each side).
With regard to technical equipment, then in front of the Ferrari 400 under the hood was located a 12-cylinder V12 engine with a volume of 4.8 liters, whose power was 340 hp. The drive of the sports car was rear. But the main thing that attracted the attention of buyers, it is proposed as an option an automatic 3-speed gearbox GM «Turbo-Hydramatic», which was borrowed from the American automobile company General Motors. In a standard complete set 5-step mechanical transmission with synchronizers was established.
Models with a manual transmission wore the name Ferrari 400 GT, and with an automatic transmission - Ferrari 400A (Automatic). Prior to 1979, it was collected 353 copies of the GT version of the 400 model (including 44 cars with right-hand drive) and 770 copies Automatic (including 234 vehicles with right-hand drive). In 1979, the Ferrari 400 engine was equipped with a mechanical fuel injection system called Bosch K-Jetronic, which in turn reduced engine power by 30 hp. (power was 310 hp at 6400 rpm). And the models, in turn, were named 400i GT, and with automatic transmission - Ferrari 400i.
The maximum speed of the cars was 243 km / h, and acceleration to 97 km / h took 7 seconds and 8 seconds for models with manual and automatic transmissions, respectively. In 1982 came the second series of models of the Ferrari 400i with an updated suspension, which received gas shock absorbers. Externally, the new versions did not differ from their predecessors. Production of the Ferrari 400i was discontinued in 1985, when it was replaced by a new model called the Ferrari 412i.
