The Fiat 131 is a small family car that was manufactured by the Italian company Fiat from 1974 to 1984. It was first presented at the Turin Auto Show in 1974. The Fiat 131 replaced the first-produced Fiat 124 and was available in three body styles: a 2-door sedan, a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon. In the US, this model was called the Brava. For the first series of Fiat 131, two versions of SOHC engines of 1.3 (64 hp) and 1.6 liters (74 hp) were proposed.

Versions in the sedan were called Mirafiori, and in the station wagon were called Familiare. Also offered, and two levels of configuration: base (base - Fiat 131) and special (special - Fiat 131s). Distinctive features of the Fiat 131s were four round headlights, chrome edging glass and dashboard. In 1976, 500 copies of the Fiat 131 called the Abarth Rallye were released. These cars included many technical improvements. Under the hood was a 16-valve DOHC engine with a volume of 2.0 liters, whose power was 138 hp. The engine was equipped with a mechanical fuel injector Kugelfischer, which was developed by FAG Kugelfischer, and later was produced by Robert Bosch Corporation.

Also, the car had an independent rear suspension. In the 1977 season, the engine power of race cars was increased to 212 hp. In 1978, the Fiat 131 Mirafiori underwent minor external changes. Also for the car were offered new 4-cylinder DOHC engines of 1.3 and 1.6 liters, whose power was 77 hp. and 95 hp respectively. Versions of Mirafiori equipped with such engines were called Supermirafiori.

The main external changes were new rectangular headlights, new bumpers, larger rear lights. The car also received a new trim. In 1978, the Fiat 131 sports version also appeared in a 2-door station wagon, which was named Racing (in the UK it was named Mirafiori Sport). Under the hood of this model was a 2.0 liter DOHC engine with a power of 113 hp. The Fiat 131 Racing was equipped with four round headlights, but unlike other Mirafiori models, the extreme headlights were larger than those closer to the center.

Also to the distinctive features include a new grille, spoilers, extended wheel arches, as well as a 5-speed gearbox with a short shift. The maximum speed of the Fiat 131 Racing was 180 km / h. Models in the 5-door station wagon called Familiare were renamed Panorama. There were also diesel versions (Diesel), which were equipped with 4-cylinder diesel power units of 2.0 (59 hp) and 2.5 liters (71 hp) volumes.

In 1981, the third Fiat 131 series appears. The production of sports versions of Racing was discontinued, despite the fact that they continued to sell well in 1982. The car has undergone some changes in the interior, which touched the dashboard and glove box.

Two new SOHC engines of 1.4 (64 hp) and 1.6 liters (84 hp) were also presented. They were equipped with models of Mirafiori. For the Supermirafiori models, DOHC engines of 1.4 (74 hp) and 1.6 liters (96 hp), as well as a 2-liter DOHC power unit with 113 hp, were offered. Fiat 131 Panorama versions were equipped with SOHC 1.3 engines (64 hp) and 2.0 liters (74 hp). For cars it was also proposed a new clutch, gearbox and improved suspension. In the same year, a new sports version called Volumetrico Abarth was introduced, which was equipped with a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine from Abarth. The power of this engine was 138 hp.

In 1983, the production version of the Fiat 131 sedan was discontinued. The model in the station wagon was named 131 Maratea and began to be equipped with a 2.0 liter petrol engine with 113 hp. or diesel power unit volume of 2.5 liters, whose power was 71 hp.
