The first generation minivan Nissan Presage, produced for the domestic market of Japan, was released in the autumn of 1998. Its appearance was somewhat belated: such well-known models as the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Ipsum and Mitsubishi Chariot Grandis were already on the market. However, the debut turned out to be quite successful, given the significant demand for cars with a similar body type at that time.

A year later, the Bassara sports version was introduced with a redesigned front end and interior. Presage, like the Nissan Prairie, is based on the upgraded SS-L platform, but in the rear suspension instead of the Multi-Link Beam system, a more complex multi-link system is used on the longitudinal and transverse levers. The dimensions of the 5-door 8-seater Presage were 4755/1770/1720 mm with a wheelbase of 2800 mm and a track 1535/1520 mm.

The curb weight of the car was 1630-1810 kg, depending on the type of engine, the permissible total - 2070-2250 kg, and the minimum ground clearance - 150 mm. The rear side doors Presage / Bassara were hinged, like expensive European counterparts. Standard equipment included xenon headlights, a navigation system with a 7-inch LCD screen and a DVD player, full power accessories and wood trim, and, on request, leather upholstery. The basic gasoline 4-cylinder 16-valve engines with distributed injection and gas-distributing mechanism DOHC were located transversely at the front and had a volume of 2.388 liters (150 hp / 5600 rpm, 216 Nm / 4400 rpm).

Presage with such a power unit had a front-wheel drive and developed a maximum speed of 170 km / h. The gearbox was installed as a 4-speed automatic, and "mechanics". Another engine variant was a turbocharged diesel engine with a volume of 2,488 liters (150 hp / 4000 rpm, 279 Nm / 1800 rpm). It was used on all-wheel drive versions of the Presage. The most powerful engine installed on the Presage of the first generation was a 3-liter V6 with distributed injection with a capacity of 220 hp / 6400 rpm and with a torque of 279 Nm / 4400 rpm (since 2000). A car with such a power plant had a maximum speed of 180 km / h. On the Presage was installed steering rack type with power.

The minimum turning diameter was 9.9 m. The front brakes were ventilated discs, and the rear brakes were both drum and disc brakes. ABS was supplied in basic equipment. The size of standard tires is 205/65 R15 for 2.4-liter versions, 215/65 R15 - for diesel engines and 215/60 R16 - for V6. The second generation Presage debut took place in June 2003. Van was created on the usual for the class L sedan FF-L series platform, with front-wheel drive, but with the ability to install 4WD.

The same used in the sedan Teana. Body dimensions are 4865/1800/1695 mm with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. Curb weight of the car 1790 kg. The Presage family consists of three versions - the base “V”, the improved “X” and the sports “Highway Star”. From the first generation of the minivan, there are three rows of seats in the cabin; sliding doors appeared on the back of the body on both sides. The car has 8 seats with the possibility of transformation. The third row seats can be folded into the floor. Second-row chairs move on a sled through the cabin and can be combined into one sofa.

In this case, it accommodates 3 people. As an option to facilitate access to the third-row seats, a remote control is offered to lower the backs of the second row seats forward. The equipment of the model is traditional for the Japanese car industry is rich and includes all the necessary benefits of civilization, in particular, front and rear parking sensors are present in the basic configuration. The second-generation Presage comes with an in-line 4-cylinder 2.5-liter QR25DE (163 hp / 5200 rpm) or a V6 3.5-liter VQ35DE gasoline engine. The 2.5-liter engine comes in combination with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and the 3.5-liter engine comes with a CVT variator.

The last power unit, by the way, is not installed on the basic V-version. A powerful enough dynamics of the car is accompanied by good handling and good noise insulation of the cabin, making the movement on this minivan quite comfortable. On May 29, 2006, a modernized Presage was introduced to Japanese consumers. The front of the car has changed a bit, a new head light has appeared.
