The debut of the Peugeot 307 took place in March 2001. The novelty was met with a bang, and immediately gained many fans. This model has replaced the family of 306s. The fact that the Peugeot 307 became the “Car of the Year 2002” testifies to its popularity and success. It belongs to the European class C, usually called the Golf-class. Available in two versions: three-and five-door hatchback. The dimensions of the three-and five-door hatchbacks are exactly the same, only the doorways are different.
The model range opens the basic version of the XR, equipped with air conditioning, power accessories, six airbags, central locking with remote control, etc. This is followed by the 307 XS, additionally equipped with climate control, a computer, a rain sensor, an audio system with a CD changer, and 15 inch wheels. The series is completed by the most expensive version of the 307 XSi, besides being equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, a five-compact CD changer and other equipment. In its class, the Peugeot 307 was out of competition in terms of cabin volume, trunk space, space in the back of the car, and the number of different tanks in the cabin.
All this is achieved through well-designed design ergonomics. The wheelbase of 2.6 m allowed to make a spacious cabin. The driver's seat has many adjustments, and the driver of any body size can accommodate comfortably. It is noteworthy that it does not constrain the passenger in the back seat.
The Peugeot 307 is equipped with a modern and powerful audio system with a CD player and a CD changer fully integrated with the control system. Peugeot 307 is equipped with one of five engines: three petrol engines with 1.4 working volumes; 1.6 / 110 hp, 2.0 / 138 hp and two diesel with Common Rail injection technology of 2.0 liters (EW 10 J4 and DW 10 TD) with 90 hp. In addition to the manual 5-speed gearbox, adaptive automatic gearbox with the Tiptronic system can be installed on cars with 1.6 l and 2.0 l petrol engines. It combines the advantages of mechanical and automatic transmissions. MacPherson-type front suspension, rear multi-link with torsion bar.
Peugeot experts paid much attention to safety. They equipped the car with all kinds of security systems. First, it is seat belts. Secondly, the special design of the seat, which allows for the deformation of the cabin as a result of a side impact to avoid the clamping of the driver and passengers. As many as six airbags, which is still a rarity in this class. Airbags have two gas generators, and the power of the “shot” of the airbag is regulated depending on the impact force. If the blow was not strong, then only one gas generator is triggered, and both are “fired” only during very severe accidents.
Moreover, the airbag front passenger, if necessary, can be disabled. The driver and passenger in the front seat are additionally protected by side airbags. The body structure meets the most stringent requirements for passive safety. The body consists of a solid cabin frame, reliably protecting the driver and passengers, as well as special weakened zones of programmed deformation. They are designed so that, when crumpled, they absorb a significant portion of the impact energy. To improve driving safety, the car is equipped with disc brakes on all wheels, the latest generation ABS system, an electronic brake force distributor and an emergency brake assist.
Automatic activation of the alarm during heavy braking will help to stop the car next behind. In 2002, a high-capacity wagon appears, called SW. A car capable of carrying up to seven passengers and at the same time pleasantly surprises with its sharp handling and high level of comfort. From the base hatchback, the SW differs not only in the new body, but also in its size: the wheelbase has been increased by 10 centimeters, the overall length of the body has grown by 12 centimeters. Thanks to this, the cabin has become spacious.
To order is offered a seven-seater version with three rows of seats. Additional seats are mounted in the luggage compartment, behind the second row of seats, and the sixth and seventh seats are not just a thin sofa upholstered with leatherette, but full-fledged seats with adjustable capability and their own three-point seat belts. If there is no need for additional seats, then they add up, thus freeing up space for luggage.
The volume of the luggage compartment can be varied not only by folding the third-row seats. In all versions of the 307 SW, seats in the second row of seats also have the possibility of longitudinal adjustment. They are made in the form of three separate seats, and the average can be folded, performing the function of the armrest and table at the same time. Basic versions of the Peugeot 307 SW are equipped with either a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 110 horsepower, or a two-liter capacity of 136 hp, or a 1.9-liter turbo diesel with a power of 110 hp. There is in the model range of Peugeot and modification with a station wagon called Вreak.
It has significant differences from the Peugeot 307 SW. Firstly, Vreak can only have a five-seater salon, and secondly, even for a surcharge, it can not have a transparent top with an electric curtain. Accordingly, the SW modification is the same Break, only in a richer set, necessarily having a transparent top and optionally equipped with options such as additional third-row seats. Peugeot designers managed to create a modern, beautiful, stylish, comfortable car for life. With the release of this car in the Golf-class were laid new standards.
