Largo minivan was created in the image and likeness of the Nissan Serena, but with a much wider and more comfortable interior. The first copy came off the assembly line back in 1993. The name comes from the English word large - large, large. Exterior design turned out solid and impressive.
The wide grille and slightly raised headlamps mark the Largo among other Japanese-made minivans. Strongly sloping in front of the machine reduces air resistance. The forward "nose" is crushed during a frontal impact by the safety zone and, in combination, the tool box with the battery, spare wheel and other utensils. The main feature of the car is that the driver and the front passenger are not located above the front wheels, but within the wheelbase. The engine is located under the front seats. The cabin can accommodate 7 or 8 people, the seats are arranged in three rows. To enter the passenger part of the cabin there is a huge sliding door on the left side. The doorway is very wide.
Inside - two triple sofas. The first has a folding part - for the passage back. The second can be folded in half, securing its halves along the sides. In this case, the Largo becomes a cargo-passenger, with a very spacious cargo hold. To enter the salon from the driver’s side, a comfortable step is provided, which is quite useful for such a high car. The driver's seat is equipped with dignity. Ergonomics is very good, the seat is comfortable, the fit and driving is close to optimal.
Visibility at a high level, due to the very large exterior mirrors and a large glass area. And the high landing at the wheel also favorably affects visibility. The massive front panel is elegantly curved and combined with a high central tunnel. The instrument panel is very informative. In addition to the speedometer has a tachometer, fuel gauges and coolant temperature. Readability of devices at height.
From the very beginning of production, Nissan Largo was equipped with one of two engines: petrol KA24DE, four-cylinder, sixteen-valve, 2.4 liter, 145 hp, and two-liter CD20ETi turbo diesel, 100 hp. Both engines were aggregated with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed “automatic” with electronic control. Automatic transmission had three modes of operation: winter, normal and sports. The drive can be rear or full, the suspension is comfortable enough, well dampens vibrations. Four-wheel drive confidently keeps the car on the road. In the gentle turns Largo fits easily.
The car was produced in six configurations, starting with the poorest one, in which there was nothing besides the electropackage, ending with a very rich one, including climate control, navigation, a glass roof, etc. The "sports" modification of the Highway Star has become especially popular among car enthusiasts due to its special tuning details, improved driving characteristics and increased "stability" on the road. In September 1996, the Nissan Largo was slightly modernized. There are new versions: Highway Star Touring, a distinctive feature of which are 4 round headlights, and Highway Star II, which has a characteristic grille.
