The compact rear-wheel-drive sports car Nissan 240SX was first introduced on the North American market in 1989. He became the successor to the 200SX (S12) sold here. In the domestic market of Japan, the 240SX was one of the versions of the Nissan Silvia. Production of this model lasted for nine years and ended in 1998.
The car was produced in the body 2-door coupe and 3-door hatchback, had 4 seats and was built on the platform of the Nissan C. On this platform, similar models were assembled Silvia, 180SX and 200SX. The first generation Nissan 240SX had an S13 index and was produced between 1989 and 1994. Machine dimensions were 4521/1689/1290 mm with a base of 2474 mm; full load weight - 1224 kg. In turn, the S13 model was divided into two sub-versions: the first was called Zenki (for Japan) or Pignose (in the USA), and the second was Chuki, which meant translated from Japanese “early period” and “average period”, respectively.
All versions were available in SE and “base” trim levels, and in the coupe body also XE. The differences were in the details of the exterior trim and engine upgrades. The coupe had a head-up display featuring a digital speedometer; "Base" was equipped with power steering, air conditioning, radio, power windows and two PB, expensive equipment included climate control and leather interior. The options were hatch, CZ and cruise control. In 1994, a limited edition version was produced with a convertible body and a 4-speed automatic transmission.
They installed a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engines KA24E I4 SOHC (on version S13 from 1989 to 1990) and KA24DE I4 DOHC (on versions S13 and S14 from 1991 to 1998). The first engine had a power of 140 hp, the second - 155 hp (at 5600 rpm). Overhead valve with two camshafts and 4 valves per cylinder KA24DE I4 DOHC developed a torque of 217 Nm (at 4400 rpm). The average consumption of petrol AI-95 was 9.7 liters per 100 km. The engines were aggregated with both a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Independent suspension was a MacPherson strut with springs, wishbone and transverse stabilizer in front and a system of levers and rods, springs and transverse stabilizer in the rear. All wheels were equipped with disc brakes (front ones - ventilated), and cars in the SE configuration also had ABS. Steering differed sharpness. "Two hundred and fortieth" of the second generation was produced only in the coupe, called the S14 and was produced in the years 1995-1998.
The dimensions of his body were somewhat different: 4498/1727/1288 mm with a base of 2525 mm; the track was 1480/1470 mm; clearance is 130 mm; the maximum weight of the car is 1253 kg, and the boot volume is 240 l. The model was also divided into two separate variants: Zenki and Kouki. The “pop-up” headlights disappeared from the exterior of the car, two airbags were added to the cabin. All differences with the predecessor model were mostly cosmetic. 240SX Zenki (S14b) was produced from 1995 to 1996.
Standard equipment included 15-inch wheels 195/60, SE and LE - alloy wheels R16 and reinforced brakes. In addition, LE equipment included a leather interior, audio system and a chip key for opening doors. For the SE, optional ABS and all wheel drive were offered.
From 1997 to 1998, the 240SX Kouki (the “last”) or S14a was produced. The headlights, front bumper, hood and fenders have been changed, the dashboard has been upgraded. 240SX enjoyed deserved love among fans of this brand, especially in North America, where there are clubs lovers Nissan 240SX. This is due to the excellent handling and design features of the machine, allowing successful deep tuning of the model. For example, turbocharging was developed and widely used by enthusiasts of engines, and the body kit configuration is limited only by the owner’s imagination. The last car of this model came off the assembly line of the Nissan plant in Kyushu (Japan) on July 23, 1998.
