The Fiat Idea is a small, versatile Fiat car that went on sale in January 2004 for the first time. The Idea model is based on the Project 188 platform, which was originally used for the second generation Fiat Punto model. A feature of the car Fiat Idea is the versatility of its cabin, which is the ability to move and fold the rear seats. All engines offered for the Fiat Idea model meet the requirements of Euro 4.

The list of available power units includes: a 4-cylinder petrol 16-valve 1.2 Fire engine with a volume of 1.2 liters and a power of 79 hp; gasoline 4-cylinder 8-valve engine with a 1.4-liter capacity of 76 hp; 4-cylinder petrol 16 valve 1.4 Fire with a volume of 1.4 liters, whose power is 94 hp; two 16-valve turbo diesel power units 1.3 16V Multijet with a volume of 1.3 liters and 69 hp and 89 hp; 8-valve diesel engine 1.9 8V Multijet with a volume of 1.9 liters and a power of 99 hp (since 2007). In late 2005, a Brazilian version of the Fiat Idea model was released in South America. The list of proposed engines for this version includes only two power units: 8-valve petrol 1.4 8V Fire with a volume of 1.4 liters and a power of 80 hp. (such an engine can also be found on the Grande Punto model) and a new (at that time) brainchild from GM Powertrain (a division of General Motors that develops engines) - an 8-valve 1.8-liter gasoline engine with a power of 110 hp ..

Both engines have a universal fuel technology that allows you to fill the car with gasoline and ethanol. This version also has other differences specially developed for the South American market. The car received a reinforced bottom of the body, increased wheelbase and height compared with the European counterpart. The salon was borrowed from the third generation Fiat Palio model, which was to the liking of South American residents. As well as the Brazilian version received the option known as SkyDome, which was to equip the panoramic glass roof.

The technical equipment of the car also included: four airbags, ABS and EBD systems (brake force distribution system), parking sensors, rain and light sensors, 15-inch rims, Bluetooth system and leather seats. In September 2006, a version called Idea Adventure was released in the city of Sao Paulo (Brazil). Its distinguishing features were: redesigned suspension, Pirelli Scorpion 205-70-R15 tires, a protective body kit, specially designed 15-inch rims and changes in the cabin such as a white dashboard and special leather seats.
