The Fiat 126 is a 2-door subcompact car from the Italian company Fiat, which was first introduced in 1972. The predecessor of this model is the Fiat 500, which was produced until 1975. In Italy, the Fiat 126 was produced at the Cassino and Termini Imerese plants until the 1980s, after which it continued to be produced at the FSM factory (Fabryka Samochodow Malolitrazowych - small car factory) in Poland, where it was produced under a Fiat license already since 1973, as Polski Fiat 126p. The letter "p" in the title has been specifically added to distinguish it from cars produced in other countries.

On June 6, 1973, the first Fiat 126p car was assembled from Italian parts, and already on July 22, 1973, cars began to be completely and completely manufactured at a Polish factory. The release of this model in Poland lasted until 2000. Initially, a 2-cylinder Straight-2 engine with a volume of 0.594 liters was proposed for the Fiat 126 (these engines were usually used for motorcycles and agricultural equipment). The car was rather small in size. The wheelbase was 1 840 mm, length - 3054 mm, width - 1 377 mm, height - 1 337 mm.

The mass of the car ranged from 580 to 619 kg. In 1977, the Straight-2 engine, with a volume of 0.594 liters, was replaced by a more powerful 2-cylinder power unit, the Straight-2, with a volume of 0.652 liters (its power was approximately 24 hp). In 1984, the Fiat 126 car underwent the first changes in appearance.

He received a new plastic bumper and a new dashboard. The updated version was named Fiat 126p FL. In 1987, an updated version of the 126th model called the Fiat 126 Bis was released, which was equipped with an engine volume of 0.704 liters. In 1994, the model Fiat 126 is experiencing another update appearance. Some parts of the updated 126th model were borrowed from Fiat Cinquecento. This version was named the Fiat 126 EL.
