The compact car Toyota Duet (body dimensions 3660x1600x1450) was designed by Daihatsu, which is actually a subsidiary of Toyota. Duet hit the market in 1998. He was a replica of the Daihatsu Storia model in all but the name and emblem. Toyota Duet is a 5-door hatchback, which was originally produced only with front-wheel drive and a 1-liter engine. Despite the fact that the technical characteristics and size of the Duet is almost the same as the Toyota Vitz, it is slightly inferior to the latter in terms of its spaciousness and comfort.
The appearance of the Duet is very original. Rounded almond-shaped headlights tell the exterior of this model a note of uniqueness. Rounded body shapes also have characteristic features. Perhaps due to the excesses with the originality of the design, the appearance of the Duet on the market was somewhat cool. Therefore, in 2001, the appearance of the model has undergone dramatic changes.
On the Duet installed headlights in the form of merging water droplets and grille in the style of Toyota Verossa. Now, in addition to the 3-cylinder in-line engine with a volume of 1 liter, the Duet is also equipped with a 4-cylinder in-line 16-valve engine with a volume of 1.3 liters and an output of 81 hp. Fuel consumption with this engine in urban mode is only 5.1 liters per 100 km. However, it is worth noting that the engines that are equipped with an analogue of Duet Daihatsu Storia, are somewhat more powerful than similar production of Toyota. Both manual and automatic transmissions are installed on the car.
In the spring of 2003, Toyota added two new versions with a modified configuration to the Duet line. Both versions, 1.0V Limited and 1.0V Classic, are based on a modification of 1.0V and are equipped with tinted rear windows, rear wiper (only 2WD version), mirrors with anti-reflective coating, air conditioning, roof antenna, driver's seat with electric adjustment and two electronic keys. In addition, version 1.0V Limited is equipped with body-colored door handles and mirrors (electrically), improved seat and door upholstery, and a CD player with an integrated AM / FM tuner.
