ZX debut took place in 1991. The model lasted on the conveyor for more than six years and enjoyed great success in Europe. The predecessor of the ZX, Citroen GS, was once very popular, so the company's specialists had the task not to harm. The car was created with an eye to its predecessor. Even the dimensions should have been the same. But in the end, the ZX turned out to be a completely new car, not even outwardly similar to the previous model. The first ZX was released with a 5-door hatchback. At the end of 1992, a 3-door version appeared, and in November 1993, the ZX Break station wagon.
In July 1994, the model was restyled. It was simply necessary to eliminate the structural and technological flaws that have emerged from the car during the first years of operation. Instead of "deaf" radiator grille has a false grille with an emblem in the middle. The five-door Citroen ZX was assembled in France, the three-door in Spain, and the limited-edition ZX 16V series was also produced there. Universal ZX Break took its place of honor in the model range of Citroen. An additional 20 cm in length compared to the base hatchback went ahead: the boot volume is 490/1580 liters versus 325/1145 liters in the hatchback.

The oldest - atmospheric 1.8 liters (60 hp). The other two - 1.9-liter, with a capacity of 71 and 90 hp. (turbo). Engines have a high degree of reliability and efficiency. Citroen ZX is a car that in which simplicity and comfort, low cost of maintenance and excellent build quality, durability of the nodes and low fuel consumption are perfectly combined. In the entire history of the release of Citroen ZX released more than a half million cars. In 1997, the last European ZX rolled off the line, giving way to the Citroen Xsara.
