Chevrolet Cavalier is a compact car from Chevrolet, a division of General Motors. It is based on the J-platform, which was developed by GM. Issue Cavalier was made in the period from 1982 to 2005. This car had high popularity after GM announced its release in early 1981. He is rightfully considered one of Chevrolet's bestsellers and one of the most popular cars in America, and not only. The predecessor to the Chevrolet Cavalier was the Chevrolet Monza, which was produced between 1975 and 1980. Chevrolet Monza was produced in three versions of the body: 2-door coupe, 3-door hatchback and 3-door station wagon.
The history of the model Chevrolet Cavalier includes three generations (the fourth generation appeared under the brand name Toyota). The total release in the entire history was approximately 6.5 million pieces, and 6 General Motors factories in the United States and Mexico were immediately involved in assembling Cavaliers. The first generation Chevrolet Cavalier was produced from 1982 to 1987.
For the first, 5 body options were offered: a 2-door convertible, a 2-door coupe, a 3-door hatchback, a 4-door sedan and a 4-door station wagon. For this generation, 3 engine variants were prepared: an L4 engine with a volume of 1.8 liters and 2.0 liters, as well as a V6 engine with a volume of 2.8 liters. As for the transmission, there were also offered three options: 4-speed and 5-speed manual transmissions, and 3-speed automatic. In 1988, the second generation Chevrolet Cavalier was released.
This year, the car received its first changes in appearance, although the size and shape remained the same, except for slightly modified body panels (the former angularity was removed). However, small external changes could not remove the main disadvantages of the car, namely: unattractiveness, low power levels (except for the Z24 version) and a significant lag in quality from the Japanese competitors. During this period, already offered four body styles: 2-door convertible, 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and 4-door station wagon.
Of the previous engines, only the V6 with a volume of 2.8 liters remained, but two new power units appeared: the list began to head the V6 engine with a volume of 3.1 liters; and the smallest in volume was the L4 volume of 2.2 liters. There are two transmission options: 5-step “mechanics” and 3-step “automatic”. But with the advent of the new generation in 1995, many of the shortcomings of the car were corrected. The car got a more streamlined body. Despite the criticism from the automotive press, sales of the Chevrolet Cavalier increased, but the car was still the weakest competitor for the products of the Japanese car industry.
The third generation had only three bodies in circulation: a 2-door convertible, a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan. The list of power units consisted of only 4-cylinder engines of 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 liters. In the list of transmissions, unlike the previous generation, a 4-step “automatic” appeared. Note that sales of Chevrolet Cavalier in the Asian markets were made under the Toyota brand, with which General Motors entered into agreements. The only difference served only the right wheel. Their assembly was fully carried out in the United States.
For 1995, it is worth noting an update, which has become the most elegant and quite well-equipped version - the sports coupe Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. Its production was carried out until 2003. The basic set of the Z24 model of the 2000s included such options as anti-theft security alarm systems, ABS, spectacular interior lighting, a special Scotchguard seat cover, power door locks, aluminum wheels with a lacing imitation design. The range of installed engines was supplemented by a 2.4-liter L4 SFI engine with two camshafts developing 152hp. In 2003, the Chevrolet Cavalier undergoes another change.
They touched only the exterior of the car: headlights, bumper, grille - which gave a more dynamic look to the car.
