The Chevrolet Beretta is a front-wheel-drive coupe represented by Chevrolet, a division of General Motors. Beretta was produced in Wilmington, Delaware and in Linden, New Jersey. A new 2-door coupe was created on the basis of the D-platform from the company General Motors. For the first time Chevrolet Beretta was introduced in 1987. Exterior design was designed in the design studio of the Chevrolet Exterior Studio 3. In the same studio also developed cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Camaro. In total, 3 versions of the car were created in the history of the Chevrolet Beretta: standard (CL), GT, and more prestigious GTU / Indy / GTZ / Z26 modifications.
In 1990, it was the leading racing model for the 500-mile race of Indianapolis. Chevrolet announced the appearance of the serial model Beretta in the back of a convertible, but she never appeared at the exhibition stands. The Chevrolet Beretta GTU model was a special version of the Beretta, which was sold from 1988 to 1989. For its creation was taken model Beretta GT (package improvements suspension z51). It was equipped with new 16-inch aluminum rims, rear spoiler, new mirrors, a special trim and stickers on the body. The suspension got tighter settings, one of the reasons for this was a small ground clearance.
For this version offered three body colors: black, white and red. Modification of the Beretta GTZ was the top version of the coupe, which was produced in the period from 1990 to 1993. Under the hood of the Chevrolet Beretta GTZ is a High Output Quad 4 engine from the 2.3 liter Oldsmobile company. Its power was 180 hp, and the maximum torque was equal to 217 Nm. Also standard came with the 5 speed manual gearbox GETRAG and GM FE7 suspension (top models of the GM PRO series). GTZ acceleration to 96 km / h took 7.6 seconds. In the reviews of the automotive press, the Quad 4 engine noise was noted.
It was noted as the most growling engine of the time. In 1991, a 3.1-liter V6 engine appeared. Its power was 140 hp. However, such a power unit was only available in combination with a 3-speed automatic transmission. This combination affected the acceleration of the car.
Acceleration to 96 km / h with such equipment took already 9 seconds. Also, such an engine was available as standard for the Beretta GT models from 1990 to 1992, and an optional powertrain for all standard Chevrolet Beretta and Beretta GT models in 1993. The engine was always installed only in combination with a 3-speed automatic transmission. In 1991, major changes were made to the interior. The car received a new dashboard, center console, and an airbag was installed for the driver. In 1994, the GT and GTZ models changed the new version of the Chevrolet Beretta - Z26.
The 3.1-liter V6 engine has been redesigned, and its new version has already been named the 3100 Series V6. Improvements made it possible to get an increase in power of 20 hp. Engine power was now 160 hp. In the same period, the power of the Quad 4 was reduced by 10 hp. (170 hp ..). For all the time of release of the Chevrolet Beretta Quad 4 engine of 2 volume. 3 liters is always offered only in combination with a 5-speed gearbox.
In 1995, the power of 3100 V6 was reduced by 5 hp. and amounted to 155 hp, retaining these values already until the completion of the production model Beretta. In 1996, the 2-door coupe Chevrolet Beretta was discontinued.
