The mid-size pickup of the 2004 model year Chevrolet Colorado replaced the model S-10 in the company's program. The official premiere took place at the January 2003 NAIAS in Detroit. Production was launched at GM's plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the fall of 2003.
The design of the Colorado is original and is based on the new GM cargo platform. Cabin types - single (Regular Cab), one and a half (Extended Cab), double (Crew Cab). The pickup went into a series with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with a standard, extended or 4-door cab and 3rd suspension settings: standard, sport or off-road.
The car is equipped with two new engines - R4 Vortec 2800 (175 hp, 251N • m) and R5 Vortec 3500 (220 hp, 305 N • m), obtained by reducing the number of cylinders of the Vortec 4200 motor. -step "automatic" or 5-speed manual gearbox. Side airbags, heated leather seats, OnStar satellite system and XM digital radio are available on request. Due to the excellent aerodynamics of the cabin and improved torsion suspension Colorado became the quietest in the class. Steering column adjustable. Permanent four-wheel drive is connected by a button on the panel. The rear differential is self-locking, even on the rear-wheel drive version of the 2WD, as is the traction control.
The basic equipment Z85 includes ABS, fabric and vinyl trim seats, 15-inch wheels and power steering. In parallel with the Colorado, the more expensive GMC Canyon pickup is being assembled. The main differences between GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado are the exterior of the front end with a large chrome mask of complex shape, at the same time framing the radiator grille and dividing lighting engineering into two parts (in contrast to the horizontal bars of the Colorado). Complementing the picture is the traditionally large GMC red emblem. The interior of the Canyon is not as utilitarian as the Chevrolet, for example, the center console GMC with aluminum coating.
