Volkswagen Amarok - car review

For the first time, the Volkswagen Amarok was introduced in 2009 at the International Truck Show in Hanover under the name Volkswagen Pickup Concept. Serial production was established in the fall of 2009 at the Pacheco plant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, since it was South America (along with Africa and Australia) that became the main market for this pickup truck. The model name “Amarok” was taken from the language of the Inuit, who live in Greenland and Chukotka, and is translated as “steppe wolf”. Amarok is designed from scratch. The car has impressive dimensions, its length is 5254 mm, width - 1944/1954 mm, and height - 1834 mm.

In terms of cargo capacity, this pickup has no equal in class. On board, he can lift from 950 kg to 1.2 tons of cargo. And in the performance of Heavy Duty can take more than a ton and pull the trailer weighing up to 2.8 tons. Initially, customers were offered a 5-seater modification with a “double” cabin (double cab). In the future we plan to submit a version with a single cabin.

The developers have created a completely new platform. The Amarok is based on the stair frame, which is considered the strongest in the class, and is the carrier in the body. The front suspension is independent, has double wishbones and springs. The rear suspension has a continuous bridge on the springs, has two varieties depending on the preferences of the buyer: a more comfortable suspension with two-leaf springs and more utilitarian with five-leaf springs. The exterior design is made in the style of the Volkswagen brand: fog lights integrated into the front bumper, a fairly massive false radiator grille, and characteristic headlights.

The Amarok is quiet and cozy, spacious even in the rear seats. The interior design is similar to the interior design of Volkswagen passenger models. Devices are organized very practical. Everything is as functional as possible, and the materials for decoration have been chosen predominantly of good quality and strict. The five-seater saloon is thought out to the smallest detail: the back row of the seats can be folded by arranging an additional place for luggage.

Amarok is offered in three trim levels - Base, Highline and Trendline. The simplest version has no special additional equipment (ordinary mechanical door locks and window raisers), but already the Trendline version, not to mention the Highline version, has electric equipment, air conditioning, fog lights and an audio system. As for the maximum configuration Highline, it is also different chrome mirrors, painted wheel arches and alloy wheels by 17 inches (in previous versions - 16 inches).

In the list of additional accessories - arches, steps, plastic covers for the cargo compartment and much more. Under the hood, the Volkswagen Amarok Double Cab (Base and Trendline versions) has a 2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 90 kW / 122 hp. Its distinctive feature is a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry.

With a speed of 2000 rpm and a compact two-liter engine develops torque of 340 Nm. This pickup consumes about 7.5 liters of fuel per 100 km. Equipped with a motor with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. In the top-end configuration, the owner of the car gets a 2-liter turbodiesel with a Common-Rail direct injection system equipped with an adjustable double turbocharger, which allows it to reach a maximum torque of 400 Nm at 1500 rpm. The average fuel consumption is only 7.6 liters per 100 km in the rear-wheel drive version. Volkswagen Amarok has three types of drive: basic rear, plug-in full and permanent full.

Rear-wheel drive will be more preferable in urban environments and on flat roads. The second version of the drive provides four-wheel drive with a rigidly connected front axle and reduced transmission in razdatke. And the third option is a permanent four-wheel drive with a Torsen center differential, through which the torque is divided in the 40/60 ratio, without downshift. In Amarok there are electronic systems for descending and lifting, off-road operation is activated using the Off Road button ABS, which significantly reduces the braking distance. The new pickup has a ground clearance of 249 mm, and the depth of the ford to be overcome is 500 mm.

Therefore, even the worst cover pickup conquers confidently and without any doubt.
