The Rover 25 is a small car that was first introduced by the British car company in the fall of 1999, as the 2000 model, and was part of the Rover 200 Series (the 200 Series was launched in 1984). The predecessor of the 25th was a model called the Rover 200 Series Mark III (R3), the chassis of which was taken as a basis and somewhat improved in order to improve handling. Compact Rover 25 had a similar front part with a larger model Rover 75. Rover 25 was offered in two body styles: 3-door and 5-door hatchback. The wheelbase of the car was 2,500 mm, body length - 3,990 mm, width - 1,688 mm, and height - 1,417 mm. All cars were front wheel drive.
Initially, the car was offered four engine options: four-cylinder power units K-Series Straight-4 with a volume of 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 liters and a four-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 2.0 liters. As for the transmission, there was a 5-speed manual transmission made by Ford. At the end of 2000, a 1.1-liter, 16-valve petrol engine appeared in the list of available engines. Less than a year later, as the model Rover 25 was launched, BMW sells a division of the Rover Group to the Phoenix consortium.
In the summer of 2001, the company with the new name MG Rover Group introduced the sports version of the Rover 25 called MG ZR. The car has received updates in the exterior and interior, as well as a sports suspension. Under the hood, the VVC power unit with a volume of 1.8 liters and a capacity of 160 hp is located, and the maximum speed of the “charged” hatchback was 209 km / h. It is worth noting that the model Rover 25 in April 2000 became a bestseller in the UK. In 2003, Rover released a version of the Rover 25 called "Streetwise." Its main difference from the base model was the new plastic bumpers of gray or black color.
The company Rover introduced this modification as a "city car". There was also the 25th van version, titled “Rover Commerce”. In 2004, the Rover 25 and MG ZR cars underwent an easy restyling of the exterior, in order to modernize their appearance somewhat. The main changes were made to the interior design, which was completely revised. In April 2005, the production of the Rover 25 car was completed.
