Lincoln LS - car review

The Lincoln LS is a luxury sports sedan from the Lincoln company. The designation LS is an abbreviation of the English phrase "Luxury Sport". For the first time the sedan was introduced in 1999 as a 2000 model year car and was a receiver, taken out of production, the Lincoln Mark VIII. The car was produced in the period from 2000 to 2006. Lincoln LS was designed on the DEW98 platform. This platform was the product of the joint efforts of engineers from renowned companies like Ford and Jaguar.

Based on the DEW98, the Jaguar S-Type and Ford Thunderbird were designed. The LS model originally had LS6 and LS8 markings depending on the engine installed, but later they were renamed “LS V6” and “LS V8” in order to avoid confusion with Lexus car names. However, it has become common to use only the abbreviation “LS” for the name. Over the past ten years, the LS model became the first car for which, as an option, a manual transmission was offered. The Lincoln LS, in combination with the V8 engine, rear-wheel drive and weight distribution in relation to 50/50, became an attractive alternative to European and Japanese sports sedans of the time.

In 2000, the Lincoln LS was already offered with two engine options: the V6 with a volume of 3.0 liters and a 210 hp capacity. and V8 volume of 3.9 liters capacity of 252 hp as an option. The V6 engine was a variant of the model of the power unit Duratec 30 from Ford. On it, as well as on the V8, both manual and automatic transmissions can be installed (both gearboxes are 5-speed). Automatic transmission had a mechanical shift mode. The 3.9-liter V8 engine was designed based on the 4.0-liter Jaguar AJ-V8 powertrain.

In the same year, Lincoln LS was nominated for the 2000 North American Car title. In 2002, the modification was released LSE (Special Edition) for both V6 and V8. The distinctive features of this version include: an exclusive radiator grille; reduced ground clearance; exclusive wheels; dual exhaust pipe. In 2003, the Lincoln LS was updated (while the Continental model was discontinued). The updated LS became more powerful (V6 - 232 hp, V8 - 280 hp) due to the appearance of adjustable valve timing for the camshaft of the intake valves, as well as the electric throttle and accelerator pedals, instead of the traditional mechanical system. Appearance LS 2003 slightly changed.

As for the front of the car, now xenon headlights have been installed here, and the rear trunk has been redesigned due to the appearance of new taillights. Innovations can also include: electronic activation of the parking brake by pressing a button; DVD touch screen and navigation system with a high-quality THX-standard audio system (a high-precision reproduction standard used in home theaters), first used in a car. LSE versions of this year’s models were also available. They had an exclusive aerodynamic body kit and wheels, as well as a new exhaust pipe. Already in 2005, the version with the V6 engine was discontinued, along with the advent of the Lincoln Zephyr.
