In August 2001, one of the most prestigious American golf clubs in Pebble Beach hosted the first show of a new luxury sedan Cadillac CTS, which replaced the outdated model Cadillac Catera. The car is built on a completely new rear-wheel drive platform GM Sigma, specially designed for Cadillac. The appearance of the sedan is designed in the new corporate style of the company art and science: sharp edges of the body, elongated vertical front lights, massive bumpers. The body of the CTS is extremely “multifaceted”, deliberately chopped forms look a bit brutal, even the body of the exterior mirrors are angular.
The front part of the car is decorated with a large, forward-facing grille with a “family” coat of arms, vertical headlights located at the ends of the wings, and an almost solid bumper with a combination of direction indicators and “fog lights”. The main difference is the forced LS6 engine from the 5.7-liter Chevrolet Corvette (V8 16V), which develops 400 hp. and 536 Nm. The large display shows not only the navigation data, but also a picture from the rear view camera. On the spokes of the steering wheel control buttons cruise control, heated rim and "radio". Unlike the CTS sedan, the door handles of the coupe are electronic, they have no mechanical connection with the locks. Special attention is the fact that the version of the CTS Coupe can be both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The latter is noticeably heavier, slower in acceleration (7.4 seconds to “hundred” versus 6.5), the maximum speed is less by 16 km / h - 225 instead of 241 for the coupe with two driving wheels. Chassis CTS Coupe differs from the suspension of a sedan. The coupe rear track expanded by 14 mm.
And in order to reduce the degree of understeer, engineers "played" with the diameters of anti-roll bars: the front became thinner, and the rear, on the contrary, thicker.
